Will Steve Carell Return In The Office Spin-Off? Here's What We Know
"I will be watching but I will not be showing up, that is off the cards," Steve Carell said.

The Office is gearing up for a spin-off series within the Dunder Mifflin universe. The upcoming show will center around Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore as they navigate running a struggling newspaper company. In the original series, Steve Carell’s portrayal of Michael Scott was pivotal to its success, with his sharp and controversial humour keeping audiences entertained. With news of the spin-off spreading rapidly, fans are eagerly anticipating Carell’s potential return.

Now, during a recent red-carpet appearance for his upcoming film IF alongside John Krasinski Steve Carell shared his views on the new series. When asked if he would be reprising his iconic role, the actor, talking to The Hollywood Reporter said, “I will be watching but I will not be showing up, that is off the cards. I think it’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that, but I’m excited about it.”

“Sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea, I guess, it’s set in a failing newspaper company and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads and I did The Patient with him and he’s an excellent actor and super nice guy. So I think it will be great,” Steve Carell mentioned.

Although Steve Carell declined to return as Michael Scott in The Office spin-off, his co-star, John Krasinski, who brought Jim Halpert to life, is eager to rejoin if the creator Greg Daniels offers him the role. While conversing with People on the red carpet of IF, Krasinski said, “They haven’t asked, but the truth is I’d do anything Greg Daniels asked me to do,”

The untitled series, created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, will be produced by Stephen Merchant, known for his work on the original UK series with Ricky Gervais. Merchant mentioned to Deadline that the new show will exist within the same universe as The Office, but it won’t necessarily be situated in the same office setting. The team is scheduled to begin production in July. Despite being involved in the project, Merchant admits that he has limited information about the series. He even joked that the show might revolve around Zoom meetings and employees might be only physically present in the office a few times a week

Meanwhile, Steve Carell reunited with John Krasinski for his film IF, where he voiced the lead character, Blue. The movie also stars Ryan Reynolds, Cailey Fleming and Emily Blunt in key roles.
