A dramatic dash cam footage of a vehicle on the new Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) bridge showed a car swerving violently before hitting the railing and flipping over multiple times before coming to a halt on Sunday. This is the first accident reported on the recently inaugurated Atal Setu, a six-lane trans-harbour bridge, which is 21.8 km long with a 16.5 km sea link.

According to an NDTV report, the incident took place at around 3:00 pm. The dashcam footage of the car behind the hatchback showed the vehicle cutting across lanes and slamming into the railing.

The car was travelling to Chirle (a village in Uran taluka of Raigad district). All the passengers including two women and children travelling in it are reported to be safe.

Inauguration of Atal Setu

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Atal Setu in Mumbai on January 12. It is the longest bridge in India and also the longest sea bridge in the country which provides faster connectivity to Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Beginning in Sewri and terminating at Nhava Sheva, the bridge links key areas like the Navi Mumbai International Airport, Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and Mumbai-Goa Highway.

Atal Setu: Improved Connectivity, Less Travel Time

The bridge, built at a cost of Rs 21,200 crore, reduces the travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India. It also improves connectivity between the Mumbai Port and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port and reduces the travel time from Mumbai to Pune, Goa and South India cutting it down from the current two hours to approximately 15-20 minutes.

The road is expected to cater to around 70,000 vehicles daily.
