Mumbai Metro: Lines 2A and 7 Witness 5 Crore Passengers in Just 6 Months
Mumbai Metro's Lines 2A and 7 celebrate 5 crore passengers in 6 months, driven by Mumbai One Card adoption and eco-friendly urban mobility.

Mumbai Metro’s Lines 2A and 7 achieved a momentous milestone recently by carrying over 5 crore passengers in just six months, from April 2, 2022, to September 24, 2023.

This incredible achievement was confirmed by the Maha Mumbai Metro Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) in an official release.

Commuters in the city have been flocking to these metro lines, with stations such as Andheri West, Anand Nagar, Dahanukar Wadi, Dahisar (East), Kandivali (West), and Borivali (West) emerging as bustling hubs for daily travelers.

In addition to this remarkable surge in ridership, the adoption of the Mumbai One Card has been nothing short of impressive. The official release stated that approximately 1,49,556 passengers have embraced this convenient payment method, representing an astonishing 40 percent of daily commuters. This shift towards the Mumbai One Card not only makes life easier for travelers but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing the reliance on paper tickets.

The Mumbai Metro Line 2A, spanning 18.589 kilometers from Dahisar to Andheri West, is entirely elevated and boasts 17 strategically placed stations. Meanwhile, Mumbai Metro Line 7, covering 16.495 kilometers from Dahisar East to Gundavali, is also fully elevated and features 14 stations from Dahisar to Andheri.

Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, CMD of MMMOCL & Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, expressed his satisfaction with the surging ridership, stating, “Mumbaikars are increasingly choosing the Metro as their preferred mode of transportation, and witnessing a 5 percent growth every month is a significant feat.”

The Mumbai Metro continues to be the lifeline of the city, facilitating efficient and eco-friendly urban mobility for millions of residents. With such impressive numbers and the growing popularity of the Mumbai One Card, the future looks brighter than ever for Mumbai’s metro system.
