Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to step into the electoral fray of Madhya Pradesh for the first time since the poll dates were announced. At the forefront of his agenda is a visit to the stronghold of Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The Prime Minister will visit the state on October 21.
Modi will become the first Prime Minister to visit the Scindia School, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
Founded as The Sardar School in 1897 by former Union Minister Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia, Jyotiraditya’s father, The Scindia School excels in a value-based education system.
The Scindia School is an all-boys’ boarding school located atop a 300-foot high hill in Gwalior city, nestled within the fortified walls of the majestic 8th-century Gwalior fort. It boasts many famous alumni, including actor Salman Khan and producer-director Anurag Kashyap, among many others.
Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the anniversary function will see the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, Narendra Singh Tomar, and several functionaries of the school and other prominent personalities.
“PM will release the school’s stamp, marking the school’s immense contribution in shaping India’s education landscape with its glorious legacy of value-based education,” an official communication reads.
On its 125th-year celebration, The Scindia School has also created a school song that embodies the spirit of the institution and all that it stands for. The Founder’s Day event will feature the debut performance of the newly composed school song, performed by the school’s highly prestigious Brass Band.
This visit by the Prime Minister is crucial, considering that the BJP is said to be on weak footing in the Gwalior-Chambal belt. Out of the 30-odd seats in the region, the BJP secured less than 10.
However, the fortunes of the saffron party changed after the defection of Jyotiraditya Scindia in 2020 when he brought along with him 22 MLAs, which helped the BJP form its government in Madhya Pradesh. Kamal Nath failed to prove his majority and had to step down.
After joining the saffron party in 2020, Jyotiraditya Scindia waited for his turn to become a Union Minister. In the reshuffle by the Modi government in 2021, Mr. Scindia was appointed the Minister for Civil Aviation. Later, he was also given the additional charge of the Ministry of Steel.
