India and Sri Lanka, the two most successful teams in the history of the Asia Cup are set to meet again in the final of the 2023 edition hoping to add another Asia Cup title to their list of accolades. Rohit Sharma’s men will be gunning for a record-extending eighth Asia Cup title, while Sri Lanka will hope to draw level with India and become the joint-most successful team with seven titles.

India and Sri Lanka locked horns in the Super 4 stage recently and the final will be played on Sunday, September 17 at the R. Premadasa Stadium, the same venue where all the Super 4 games were played. Both teams are well aware of the pitch and the conditions of the venue, but there’s one factor which has fans worried, and that is rain.

Rain in the island nation has already affected many games, India’s group stage clash against Pakistan was washed out, their Super 4 game was pushed to the reserve day, and as per Accuweather, there are chances that rain could affect the summit clash.

Rain could play spoilsport in India vs. Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 final

According to Accuweather, there are 90% chances of precipitation in Colombo on Sunday, September 17. Luckily, there is a reserve day in place for the final. The reserve day for the Asia Cup 2023 final is on Monday, September 18.

Should rain interrupt the final between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday, the first priority of the umpires would be to have a shortened game. At least 20 overs per side need to be bowled to determine an outcome, but if rain doesn’t permit that, the match will be moved to the reserve day on September 18.

What if it rains on reserve day too?

There are 69% chances of precipitation on the reserve day as well according to Accuweather, so if the match cannot be completed the match will be abandoned and both India and Sri Lanka will share the trophy.

In all the editions of the Asia Cup history, never has the trophy been shared between two teams and India as well as Sri Lanka will hope the rain can stay away so they can have the best chances of adding another crown.
