NEET UG 2024 Syllabus Likely to be Reduced, Exam in May
NEET UG 2024: The commission has eliminated several chapters from Chemistry and Biology. The reduced syllabus is likely to be released next week

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has revised the syllabus of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2024. The commission has eliminated nine chapters from Chemistry and six chapters from Biology. Some sub-topics have, however, been added. As per media reports, the reduced syllabus is likely to be released next week.

NMC has deleted the State of Matter, Hydrogen, The s-Block Elements, Environmental Chemistry, The Solid State, Surface Chemistry, General Principles and processes of Isolation of Elements, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday life from Chemistry, reported The Hindu.

While Transport in Plants, Mineral Nutrition, Digestion and Absorption, Reproduction in Organisms, Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production, and Environmental Issues chapters have been removed from Biology. The NMC has added five sub-topics in Physics and Biology.

The updated NEET UG 2024 syllabus can be accessed by visiting the official website of the commission at nmc.org.in, once released. “It is notified to all the stakeholders, especially to the aspiring candidates that the Under Graduate Medical Education Board, an autonomous body under the National Medical Commission has finalised the NEET UG 2024 syllabus,” the commission had notified earlier.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the official date of the NEET UG 2024 exam. It will be held on May 5, and the online registration dates are yet to be announced.

Candidates who clear NEET UG are eligible for admission to undergraduate medical programmes across medical colleges in the country. This includesMBBS and BDS courses. NEET UG 2024 will be a pen-and-paper test covering Physics, Chemistry, and Biology curricula from Class 11 and 12 textbooks, administered in 13 languages.

To appear for the NEET, candidates must be 17 years old by December 31, 2024. Candidates must be Indian nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas nationals of India (OCIs), PIOs, or Foreign Nationals to appear for the exam.

Students who have completed or are about to complete their 10+2 or equivalent exams are eligible to apply for NEET UG. Candidates must have completed Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English at a recognised board. In the qualifying exam, candidates must obtain at least 50 per cent in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. In addition, the minimum mark criterion for applicants from the SC, ST, and OBC-NCL categories is 40 per cent.
