JANMASHTAMI 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended his greetings on the auspicious festival of Krishna Janmashtami wishing a new energy and enthusiasm in the lives of “every member of my family”, a reference to citizens. “Many congratulations on Janmashtami. Krishna Janmashtami is being celebrated across the country with great enthusiasm. The day is extremely significant since it is believed to mark the birth of Lord Krishna who is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu according to Hindu mythology.
President Droupadi Murmu also took to X to greet citizens on Janmashtami. “I congratulate all the countrymen on the holy festival of Janmashtami. The festival of Janmashtami inspires us to understand, implement and do selfless work as preached by Lord Krishna in the Gita. Lord Krishna has given the message to the whole humanity to walk on the path of religion. Come, on this auspicious occasion, let us move ahead with the spirit of public welfare and make our society and nation prosperous,” she posted in Hindi.

According to Hindu mythology, Janmashtami is celebrated on ‘ashtami’ or the eighth day of ‘Krushna Paksha’ (fortnight) of Bhadrav month. It is believed that Lord Krishna was born on this day.
