Canada-based terrorist outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun’s warning to those flying on an Air India flight on and after November 19 as “their lives might be in danger” cannot be taken lightly, according to top Indian intelligence sources. Pannun is trying to provoke the youth against India, and is threatening to repeat the 1985 bombing of Air India Kanishka flight, the sources stressed.
“We have alerted all counterparts in major cities where Air India is flying to take extra precautions. This is a matter of great concern that Pannun is roaming freely across the globe and no country is taking action against him,” top intelligence sources said.
The sources said although Pannun is not capable of doing “anything substantial”, but he is “radicalising youth without any motive against India”.
The Air India Boeing 747 flight, named after emperor Kanishka, from Toronto was scheduled to make stops at Montreal’s Mirabel airport, London’s Heathrow, Delhi’s Palam and Bombay’s Sahar on June 23, 1985, exploded mid-air, killing 329 passengers, including 22 crew members.
Pannun had asked Sikhs to not fly Air India on November 19, and called for ‘global blockade’ of the airline from Vancouver to London. “It can be life-threatening,” said Pannun in a message on November 5. The Indira Gandhi International Airport should remain shut on November 19, he warned the Indian government. It’s the same day on which the Cricket World Cup final match will take place.
In the same statement, he glorified the killers of Indira Gandhi, and said the IGI airport in New Delhi should be named after Beant Singh and Satwant Singh, the bodyguards of the former PM who assassinated her.
Pannun has also threatened actor Amitabh Bachchan, Congress leaders Kamal Nath and Jagdish Tytler.
“We have sufficient proofs against not only Pannun but also countries, which are supporting this global terrorist who is threatening India on a daily basis,” said Indian intelligence sources.
“The world knows about his connection with Pakistan and his immigration racket. We expect Justin Trudeau to listen to this and take action against the terrorist,” the sources added.
Safety of AI Staff in UK, Canada
The Indian government is “deeply concerned” about the threat issued by Pannun. He is openly threatening a country and no action is being taken despite multiple requests, said the intelligence sources.
He has attacked Indian High Commissions in the UK and Canada. “We have raised security bars of our airlines. We have done briefing as per security guidelines and our missions will be in touch with the concerned authorities in respective countries. We are fearful that Pannun can radicalise people and the same can translate into a hostage crisis or physical damage to Air India,” said the intelligence sources.
The Air India crew will be briefed about the perceptible threat. Threat analysis is already sent to the external affairs ministry and “they will do the needful on an urgent basis”, the sources added.
Indian Diaspora’s Support to Air India
Overseas friend of India BJP come out in open support of Air India, and asked all Indians and PIO to take the flights only from November 19.
It has also requested the UK government to take action against global terrorist Pannun as such a threat will intimidate UK citizens and have a negative impact on their safety and psychology.
