WhatsApp 'Secret Code' Feature For Locked Chats Is Now Available For These Users
WhatsApp's secret codes feature for locked chats enables users to conceal the entry point for accessing locked conversations.

WhatsApp, the Meta-owned instant messaging app, is finally starting to roll out the secret code for locked chats feature to beta testers. This feature, which was revealed to be in the works last month, works by allowing users to hide their sensitive conversations from your chat list, and can only be unlocked by using a code.

As reported by WABetaInfo, this feature is starting to show up on beta tester devices running WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.24.20 update, and it is available on the Google Play Store. And if this feature is available for you, you would see a new settings section within the list of your locked chats, and it will allow users an option to allow them to hide the entry point to open locked conversations..

“Specifically, after configuring a secret code, the entry point to view locked chats will no longer appear in the chat list. Instead, users can access these chats by entering the secret code into the search bar within the Chats tab,” WABeta reported.

This update is said to increase user privacy, as after removing the entry point to the locked chats list, someone who might be snooping around on your phone may not be able to identify which chats are locked. And now, even if someone somehow enters your phone, they won’t be able to see your private and sensitive conversations. “The implementation of the secret code feature ensures that the locked chats list is only visible when the correct code is entered into the search bar,” WABetaInfo added.

When Is It Rolling Out?

WhatsApp’s secret code for locked chats feature is currently rolling out to only some beta testers per the report, and it is expected that this would roll out to more users in the coming weeks. But like most rollouts, this too will happen in a stated manner, and it could take a while before it comes out of beta and is available for all users.

With that said, you can sign up to become a WhatsApp beta tester and download the beta app from the Play Store itself.
