AAP slams Lt Governor over women's security in Delhi
AAP on Saturday accused Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of stonewalling the party-ruled Delhi government's efforts.

New Delhi: AAP on Saturday accused Lt Governor Najeeb Jung of stonewalling the party-ruled Delhi government's efforts to bolster women's security in the "unsafe" national capital, and said the LG office was being "used as political tool" by the Centre.

In an open letter to the Lt Governor, the party's Delhi convener Dilip Pandey alleged that Jung had turned down their repeated requests for a meeting regarding the appointment of Home Guards as marshals in DTC buses.

"This was an issue where Centre-state relations weren't in question nor were you in the crossfire or necessarily required to be a proxy of the BJP-led central government. And yet, this was underused or rejected by you immediately," he said.

Quoting a set of figures, Pandey said that Delhi has become an "unsafe" city for women and blamed the Centre for doing "nothing" about it. The party's publicity campaign forced Jung to release "home-guards in phased manner", he claimed.

He urged the LG to mull over his role in the tussle over the appointment of Anti-Corruption Branch head. While Jung has appointed Joint Commissioner MK Meena as the chief, the AAP government has tasked SS Yadav with heading the elite anti-corruption branch.

"AAP requested you for meetings on a daily basis for days on end. And yet, you didn't have time to meet us even for a bit.

"Now, it seems, again the office of LG is being used as political tool in hands of Centre, by unconstitutionally appointing MK Meena to a position that does not even exist in charter of Anti-corruption Branch (ACB), which isn't just illegal but contempt of honourable court," the letter said.
