New Delhi: Expelled Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh returned back to the party on Tuesday and is likely to be made a Rajya Sabha MP.
Shivpal Yadav, the younger brother of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, confirmed that Amar had rejoined the party and would actively participate in the campaign for the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Singh has been offered a Rajya Sabha seat and his role in the party would be decided by Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav), said another SP leader Rajiv Rai.
There were speculations that Singh would rejoin the SP after he was spotted at several functions of the party. He was also seen at the residences of Mulayam and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav couple of times in recent past.
Before resigning from the party on January 6, 2010, Singh was the SP general secretary a Rajya Sabha MP. He was expelled from the party by Mulayam on February 2, 2010.
He was arrested and jailed for bribing three Lok Sabha MPs to support the Manmohan Singh government during a trust vote in Parliament in 2008..After his release he claimed that he had retired from politics.
