Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy sustained injuries on Saturday evening after stones were hurled at his convoy during an election campaign in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijaywada.

A group of miscreants started pelting stones at the CM’s bus during the rally which led him and another person to sustain injuries. The attack injured Reddy on his left eyebrow.

“The stone struck the CM while he was acknowledging the crowds as part of his bus tour at Vivekananda School Centre in Singh Nagar, Vijayawada,” said a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The stone hit Reddy at a very high velocity and officials are suspecting that it could have been launched from a catapult, prompting the people standing around him atop the bus to wipe his forehead with a handkerchief initially.

The chief minister was administered first aid inside the bus immediately by a doctor.

However, unfazed by the stone pelting, he resumed his tour in the city, where he has been canvassing for nearly four hours.

Meanwhile, YSRCP leaders alleged that the TDP was behind this “attack”.

TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu also condemned the attack on the chief minister the rally on Saturday. Taking to X, he said, “I strongly condemn the attack on @ysjagan. I request the @ECISVEEP to initiate an impartial and unbiased inquiry into the incident and punish the responsible officials.”

BRS leader K.T Rama Rao strongly condemned the attack on the Chief Minister. Taking to his official X account, Rao said, “Violence has no place in democracy and I hope strict preventive measures are put in place by ECI.”

YSRCP leader Hafeez Khan also spoke on the attack on CM and said that TDP is behind this cowardly act because they cannot bear to see the massive response that CM Jagan is receiving during his Memantha Siddham Yatra in their so called bastions (Vijayawada).

“We urge the police to nab the culprits. TDP should know that they cannot win the election by such attacks,” he added.
