Babush Monserrate has withdrawn support to the BJP-led GDA.

Panaji (Goa): The political instability in Goa seems all set to end with United Goans Democratic Party MLA Babush Monserrate quitting the Opposition Goa Democratic Alliance.

Monserrate, and Save Goa Front head Churchill Alemao have extended their support to the Congress-led Digamber Kamat government whose numbers in the house will now be strengthened.

Sources told CNN-IBN that Alemao might be sworn in as a Cabinet minister as early as Tuesday.

Monserrate and Alemao had withdrawn support to the Kamat government just a month back.

Their return is a big relief for Chief Minister Kamat had narrowly survived a vote of confidence in the Goa Assembly on June 30, after Speaker Pratapsinh Rane restrained three defecting MLAs from switching their allegiance to the Opposition GDA.

The Goa Speaker will hear disqualification petitions against the three defecting MLAs on Monday, even as the Supreme Court hears the MLAs' petition against the speaker.

Earlier, Monserrate along with deputy speaker Mauvin Godhinho called on Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhavan and submitted his letter of support to the Kamat government.

What's your reaction?
