New Delhi: The BJP, which has had a history of opposing dynastic politics, has decided to put its preachings into practice.

The BJP on Tuesday dropped party chief Rajnath Singh's son Pankaj Singh as its candidate from Cherai village and replaced him with Shashikant Rajbhar.

On March 14, the party had announced that Pankaj Singh would be its candidate from Cherai, but the same night the party president's son declined to contest the elections, insisting he would first like to work for the organisation.

"I welcome the party's decision and am thankful to the party for this honour. But I would like to work for the organisation first before joining electoral politics," PTI quoted him as saying.

BJP sources said the party will give some 50 seats to its allies Apna Dal and the Janata Dal-United as part of an electoral understanding.

The party has tied up with the Apna Dal, which has a support base in the state's Kurmi community, in a bid to win OBC votes for the alliance.

So far, the BJP has declared more than 350 candidates for the 403-seat state Assembly.
