New Delhi: Maintaining its dominance in Chhattisgarh, the BJP sweeped 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state. The Congress has maintained to get just a single seat, with its senior leader and former chief minister losing to BJP's Chandu Lal Sahu. Sahu has won the Mahasumund seat by less than 1500 votes. Several others Chandu Lal Sahu were also contesting from Mahasumund as independents, which divided BJP's vote share.
Meanwhile, Congress's Tamradhwaj Sahu has won Durg seat by over 16000 votes.
Chief Minister Raman Singh's son and debutant Abhishek Singh secured massive victory by over 2.3 lakh votes in Rajnandgaon. Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's niece Karuna Shukla, who quit the saffron party in October last year, lost to BJP's Lakhan Lal Sahu in Bilaspur.
Bilaspur was represented by party veteran late Dilip Singh Judeo in the outgoing Lok Sabha.
Former union minister Ramesh Bais, who is representing Raipur Lok Sabha seat from 18 years has been re-elected from the same constituency. He was pitted against Congress veteran and former minister Satya Narayan Sharma in a multi-cornered contest.
The AAP has failed badly in the state. AAP was hoping to win Bastar seat, where Soni Sori was in the fray. She was able to secure just 16,903 votes while BJP won Bastar by over 1.2 lakh votes.
In the 2009 general elections too, the BJP had won 10 out of 11 seats while the lone Korba constituency was captured by the Congress.####
