CBI questions Andhra Governor ESL Narasimhan in AgustaWestland case
ESL Narasimhan was Intelligence Bureau Director when the deal to buy the 12 helicopters was signed.

New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan has been questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the AgustaWestland helicopter bribery case. Narasimhan was Intelligence Bureau Director when the deal was struck.

CBI officials recorded his statement about the deal to by 12 helicopters from AgustaWestland.

In March 2005 Narasimhan as Intelligence Bureau Director was part of the meeting where the decision to reduce the maximum height at which a helicopter can perform optimally was taken.

The reduction in the maximum height made AgustaWestland eligible for the deal. The deal signed in 2010 and was cancelled in 2013 after the allegations surfaced.

According to the allegations several crores were paid as bribe in the Rs 3,726-crore deal to some Indian defence officials, others and a European middlemen.

MK Narayanan, who quit as West Bengal Governor, and BV Wanchoo, the former Goa Governor, have already been questioned by the CBI. They had also attended the meeting along with Narasimhan where the maximum height of the helicopters in the race.
