Close fight between Congress and HJC in Hisar; BJP plays Narendra Modi card
The Congress, facing anti-incumbency in Haryana after 10 years of rule, has fielded its two-time MLA and wife of late OP Jindal, Savitri.

Hisar: The city of Hisar will witness a multi-cornered battle in the Haryana Assembly elections on October 15 with each party fielding a strong candidate in the Jindal bastion.

The Congress, facing anti-incumbency in Haryana after 10 years of rule, has fielded its two-time MLA and wife of late OP Jindal, Savitri. The 64-year-old Congress candidate is a one-woman army and one of the richest candidates.

Savitri Jindal maintains a low-profile and is appealing for vote on the basis of development work done by her government and her clean image. On the last day of campaign, she undertook a huge roadshow covering the length and breadth of the city.

The Haryana Janhit Congress has fielded a new entrant Gautam Sardana, who according to many will give a tough fight to Savitri Jindal. Sardana had last time contested as an Independent.

In a door-to-door campaign, Sardana said, "I will win by 20,000 votes. No development work was taken by the Congress government as it was busy in corruption."

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party which is still playing the Narendra Modi card in the state elections has fielded Dr Kamal Gupta, who had lost the elections twice from this constituency.

Embroiled in the controversy over the coal scam, Zee Group Chairman Subhash Chandra had asked for the party ticket against Savitri Jindal. After being denied ticket, Chandra is backing Gupta for the seat.

As far as Indian National Lok Dal is concerned, it has fielded Bhim Mahajan. But the party did not have an extensive campaign or no posters of the leader was seen in the city.
