New Delhi: After a disastrous electoral performance this year, the Congress is rethinking its organisational structure and campaign strategy even as it celebrates its 130th Foundation Day on Sunday.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi presided over the function at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in the capital.

The Congress won a total of 44 Lok Sabha seats this year against 206 seats in 2009. Adding to party's disappointment were the Assembly elections as the party performed badly in the Maharastra, Harayana, Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand Assembly elections. The Congress ruled these states but now stands at a distant third in the states.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said there was no alternative to Congress, the oldest party in the country, and it would come back to power in the Centre.

"Congress is a time-tested party and will come back to power as there is no alternative to it in the country," Tuki said.
