New Delhi: Keeping up the pressure on the Narendra Modi government, the Congress once again demanded Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje's resignation in former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi controversy. The Congress claimed that new documents revealed that Vasundhara signed affidavit to help Modi get the United Kingdom stay permit.
Addressing a press conference, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said, "The curtains are off, the secret is out. Now Vasundhara Raje's signature have been authenticated. Rajasthan CM lied time and again, first she said that she doesn't know about the documents, and now her signature is validated. Rajasthan CM has not only violated laws and has also lied, she should resign immediately."
Reiterating party's stand, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, "After these documents were in public domain, no doubt has been left. Now Vasundhara Raje should resign without any delay. BJP's double standard has been exposed. The arrogance of senior ministers is shocking. The Home Minister's statement that no NDA minister will resign should be condemned."
The Congress also questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the issue. "Why PM not taking any action, why he is silent. Vasundhara Raje should immediately step down. PM should come and let nation now what is his stand," said Anand Sharma.
Attacking the Chief Minister, former chief minister Ashok Gehlot said, "It's very unfortunate. She should resign on moral grounds."
Documents revealed that Vasundhara helped Modi get permit to stay in the UK. She allegedly filed application backing Modi on August 18, 2011 when she was the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly.
The document read, "I make this statement with support of any immigration/application that Lalit Modi makes. But do so on the strict condition that my assistance will not become known to the Indian authority."
Training guns against the Bharatiya Janata Party after it was strongly defending the Chief Minister, Ramesh said, "BJP has always maintained that if papers are produced with her signature, then she is culpable. The case of the EAM does not disappear, she has violated four laws. RSS has also come in support of Vasundhara Raje, now they should also know that she is the culprit. Signatures nails the CM. It's not a question of whether Vasundhara Raje should resign or not resign; question is when will she resign, tonight or tomorrow."
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that no Bharatiya Janata Party leader will step down. "There will be no resignation of ministers in our regime. This is the NDA government, not UPA," said Singh.
