Delhi High Court on Thursday denied any interim protection from arrest to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in connection with the summons issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the liquor policy scam case.
“At this stage, we are not inclined to grant an interim relief,” a bench headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain said.
According to a Bar and Bench report, the Court further listed the matter of Kejriwal’s plea for interim protection for April 22 along with his main petition challenging the probe agency’s summons.
“At this stage, we are not inclined to pass any order,” the court said.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal had moved a fresh plea in the Delhi High Court, seeking no coercive action against him. On Wednesday, the AAP national convenor had told the Delhi high court he won’t appear before the ED as there is a “clear intent” to arrest him with elections around the corner.
“If ED’s intent is clear, why does it not say in the court that it will not arrest the CM?” he had said.
Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned by the central probe agency a total of nine times, however, the AAP national convenor chose to skip them every time.
ED on Sunday had issued two fresh summons to Delhi CM Kejriwal in connection to two different cases — its ninth summon in the liquor policy case and a case linked to the Delhi Jal Board.
The AAP national convenor was asked to appear before the agency on March 18 in the Delhi Jal Board case and on March 21 in the liquor policy case.
Reacting to the summons issued to Kejriwal, AAP leader Atishi had said, “Nobody knows what this DJB (Delhi Jal Board) case is about. This seems to be a backup plan to arrest Kejriwal anyhow and stop him from campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls.”
