Former NDA minister Arun Shourie flays Modi regime, calls economic policies directionless

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday tried to play down the scathing criticism directed by former National Democratic Alliance minister Arun Shourie against the Narendra Modi government.

Shourie had soundly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley calling their economic policies directionless. He accused them and BJP President Amit Shah of calling all the shots.

He had said that Modi's silence on issues like 'ghar wapsi' was disrupting harmony. Shourie's attack came even as the Modi government is all set to celebrate its first year in power on May 26.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman hit back at Shourie saying, "He has not taken a holistic approach and should have gathered more information."

Backing Shourie, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said the government is run by those who believes in autocracy. "Arun Shourie has confirmed that Modi government is about unilateralism, about autocracy and subjugation of institutional mechanism of governance at alter of chosen few."

The Modi government is already under fire because of the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill as the opposition accused it of being anti-farmer, anti-poor and pro-corporate.
