Hyderabad will eventually be a part of Telangana after 10 years: Digvijaya
Digvijaya Singh said Hyderabad will be considered as part of Telangana during the 10 years it acts as a joint capital.

New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh said that Hyderabad will eventually be a part of Telangana after 10 years. Speaking to Karan Thapar on Devil's Advocate, Digvijaya said Hyderabad will be considered as part of Telangana during the 10 years it acts as a joint capital.

Here is the transcript of an excerpt from the interview:

Karan Thapar: Critical issue is the future of Hyderabad. What assurance can you give that at the end of ten years when it stops being the joint capital Hyderabad will be entirely Telangana and it won't suffer the fate of Chandigarh which was promised to Punjab but ended up being a union territory and permanently divided between Haryana and Punjab?

Digvijaya Singh: If you see the resolution it categorically promises Hyderabad to the state of Telangana.

Karan Thapar: So was Chandigarh promised to Punjab in the 60s?

Digvijaya Singh: One second, and also we have put in the resolution; every effort will be made to have a new capital for the new state of Seemandhra.

Karan Thapar: Let me ask you a test question. During the ten years that Hyderabad is the joint capital will it be considered to be part of the territory of Telangana or would it be considered a union territory.

Digvijaya Singh: It will be part of Telangana state.

Karan Thapar: So it will be part of Telengana state even though it is a joint capital?

Digvijaya Singh: Yes.

What's your reaction?
