New Delhi: The infighting in the Bharatiya Janata Party over the ticket distribution for the coming Lok Sabha elections has taken an ugly turn with senior party leader Jaswant Singh deciding to contest an an Independent from Barmer after he was denied the seat.

Singh will file his nomination as an Independent candidate from Barmer seat on Monday. The official BJP candidate is Colonel Sona Ram Choudhary, who is very close to Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Singh had earlier hit out at the party and held those who run the party responsible for the present situation. He, however, did not name anyone. He said, "Who do I blame? Obviously those who run the party."

He added, "The party has compromised its ideology on many fronts and it has been encroached upon. They said that they couldn't adjust me, I found that insulting. I am not a piece of furniture to be adjusted."

Singh has earlier denied quitting the party. He said, "I am a founding member of this party. Working for the BJP has been an honour. I have worked for the party for so many years. Why should I resign?"

Singh also thanked leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj for extending her support to him. He said, "I am thankful to Sushmaji but she didn't have to say she's saddened. It's clear. It's also clear who is responsible for it."

Meanwhile, Singh's son and Barmer MLA Manvendra did not attend a meet called by Vasundhara Raje. He said that he is unwell. Vasundhara had summoned all party MLAs from Barmer-Jaisalmer constituency to decide on the campaign strategy.
