Jaya asks Modi to put an end to monthly increase in fuel price
Oil marketing companies on Thursday announced a cut in the petrol price by Rs 1.09 per litre, while diesel rates were increased by 56 paise per litre.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to put a "full stop" to the monthly increase in diesel price by oil marketing companies introduced during the previous UPA regime.

Seeking rollback of Thursday's increase in diesel price by 56 paise per litre, Jayalalithaa in a statement here said if the price of essential commodities needed to be regulated, diesel price should be brought under control.

"I request Prime Minister's personal intervention in the policy adopted on the fixation of fuel prices and to put a full stop for the policy introduced by previous UPA government allowing OMCs to increase the price of diesel every month," she said.

"There is a feeling among people that despite change in the government at the Centre, there was no change in the policy adopted on fuel prices," she said, adding, hike in diesel price would lead to increase in cost of essential commodities.
