Srinagar: Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court rejects state government's request for services of a sitting HC judge to probe death of National Conference (NC) worker Haji Saeed Yousuf.
The state government had asked the Chief Justice to spare the services of a sitting judge to probe the circumstances leading to the death of the NC worker allegedly in police custody.
The death of Yousuf had sparked a major political row as another National Conference worker Abdul Salam Reshi had alleged the deceased had taken Rs 34 lakh from him and Rs 84 lakh from another party worker Mohammad Yousuf Bhat for getting them berths in the state legislative council.
Several questions have been raised on the role of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over the death of the party worker.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had handed over Syed Mohammad Yousuf to the Crime Branch on September 29 after the latter had admitted to taking money from the other two party workers.
Yousuf's son Talib Hussain had also implicated Omar, accusing him of hiding the truth about his father's death and had demanded a CBI probe.
Talib had even claimed to have seen torture marks on his father's body.
Opposition PDP had also demanded that Omar must resign as the Chief Minister to ensure a fair probe into the incident.
