Jockeying begins for Alandur Congress seat
On the eve of the first day of nomination on Friday, cracks appeared in Congress.

KANCHEEPURAM: On the eve of the first day of nomination on Friday, cracks appeared in Kancheepuram Congress since “only one seat has been allocated within its Parliamentary territory” for the Congress and even that seat (Madurantakam) is a reserved one in this poll.

A group of Congressmen, including ticket-aspirants Sakrapani Reddiar, the Kancheepuram East president, and Purushottaman, the YC President of the Kancheepuram Parliamentary Constituency, have rushed to Delhi “at least to make a case that the Alandur constituency should be allotted to one of the son-of-the-soil.”

Alandur is one of the 11 assembly segments in Kancheepuram district. This segment is one among the three seats in the district that has been given to the Congress. Others are Madurantakam and Sriperumbudur.

Gayatri Devi, the sitting MLA of Madurantakam, may stake her claim from Alandur this time which had allegedly raised a revolt in Kancheepuram Congress.

Sakrapani Reddiar told Express that “supporters are advocating my candidature and Alandur should not be given to an outsider.” YC leader Purushottaman claimed that “my name was fourth in the Rahul list.”
