Karunanidhi slams Centre's abstention from vote against Lanka at UN

Chennai: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Friday slammed the Centre for abstaining from vote against Sri Lanka at United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) meeting in Geneva on Thursday.

He said that India has gone against international human rights issues by not voting against Lanka.

He said that despite his readiness to "forgive the Congress for its betrayal", the Congress government took a decision against Tamils.

"The Congress government's decision amounts to trying to shut the mouths of Tamils," he said.

India abstained from voting on a US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka over the alleged human rights violations during its civil war with the LTTE.

The resolution sought an international probe against Lanka and has now been adopted by the UN.
