New Delhi: The Election Commission on Thursday allowed BJP Uttar Pradesh in-charge Amit Shah to resume campaign in the state following his undertaking that he will not disturb public order and tranquility.
The Election Commission on Wednesday censured Narendra Modi's close aide Amit Shah for making controversial remarks during campaigning. The EC's decision came days after it had banned the leader from campaigning in Uttar Pradesh during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Shah had landed in a major controversy for his remarks that the upcoming general election was an opportunity to seek "revenge for the insult" inflicted during the riots in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh last year.
While addressing a rally at a riot-hit Jat village near Muzzafarnagar, Shah had said, "If you want to take revenge you should vote for the BJP. You can no longer resolve a matter with swords and arrows. Today you can take revenge by voting for the BJP."
He had said, "Justice is not being done to the people and it's time to take revenge. It was during the Mughal rule that swords and arrows were used to take revenge. But now you have to vote to take revenge. Press the right button to show them their right place."
