Imphal: A party from Nagaland is making its debut in the Manipur Assembly elections. Naga People's Front's foray is being viewed as a threat to the territorial integrity on Manipur.
Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has, however, dismissed the outfit, saying it poses no threat at all.
But Naga People's Front has raised the political temperature in the Naga dominated hill districts of Manipur. In Senapati district messages of an alternative arrangement or posters that talk about the integration of Naga dominated areas for a greater Nagaland remains the primary plank on which the Naga People's Front is entering electoral politics for the first time in Manipur.
The party's debut is bringing into sharp focus the territorial integrity of the state.
"We have two three agendas. One is to solve the Naga problems that are the priority and the second is the move to fight the corruption in Manipur," said Naga People's Front candidate from Senapati District, Losii Dikho.
Ibobi Singh seems to be unaffected by the Naga People's Front.
When asked if he is worried about the Naga People's Front jumping into the election fray, Singh replied, "No! They have been not much affected. No, there is no impact at all."
The reminders of the 121-day blockade that crippled Manipur for four months are still fresh along National Highway 57. As the Naga People's Front fields 12 candidates the votes will tell the story.
