BJP general secretary Gopinath Munde blamed BCCI chief Sharad Pawar for the humiliation of the cricket board.

New Delhi: BJP general secretary Gopinath Munde blamed BCCI chief Sharad Pawar for the humiliation of the cricket board due to Graham Ford's rejection of the offer to coach the Indian team.

"In his capacity as BCCI chief, Pawar is responsible for humiliation of the board after Ford declined the job of coach," Munde, Pawar's arch rival in Maharashtra, was quoted by PTI.

The BJP leader attended a meeting with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at the Mantralaya here on Wednesday to discuss the crisis among sugarcane farmers in the state.

Munde also accused Pawar, the Union Aggriculture Minister, of neglecting farmers.

"Had Pawar paid attention to the plight of sugarcane growers in Maharashtra, the state would not have seen over 40 lakh tonnes of sugarcane lying uncrushed in the fields," Munde was quoted as saying.

So far, 21 sugarcane growers in Maharashtra have allegedly committed suicide after mills failed to crush their produce, Munde said.

Instead of concentrating on the selection of the Indian cricket coach, Pawar should have paid more attention to the plight of farmers, he said.

Munde's comments on Pawar came in the backdrop of the latter's criticism of Munde recently. Pawar had made a veiled reference to Munde's alleged liaison with a 'tamasha' artiste from Chaufula in Pune district.
