Opposition targets Centre over Land Bill, PM Modi to reach out to farmers in his 'Mann Ki Baat' today
The address assume significance as the government is trying to get Land Acquisition Amendment Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha.

New Delhi: As opposition parties target the government over Land Bill and the plight of farmers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attempt to reach out to the farmers in the sixth edition of 'Mann Ki Baat' programme which will be aired on All India Radio on Sunday.

The address assume significance as the government is trying to get Land Acquisition Amendment Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha, where it does not have the requisite numbers, by April 5. If the Bill in not passed before the due date then the ordinance promulgated will lapse and cannot be introduced again.

The Lok Sabha has already passed the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Bill, 2015 with nine amendments by a voice vote on March 9, where the BJP is in majority.

The Opposition is adamant on not letting the Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha and unitedly led a protest march from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan appealing to the President not to clear the Bill.

The address comes even as unseasonal rains and hailstorms have destroyed standing crops in many states. Many farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Haryana.
