PM Modi acknowledges Nehru's contribution in nation building

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lauded Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and acknowledged his contribution in nation building.

While praising Nehru, Modi narrated an instance when Ram Manohar Lohia contested the then Prime Minister's figures on some issue. "Pandit Nehru said he would not challenge Lohia. Such was the greatness of Pandit Nehru," he said.

Modi during the debate on Constitution of India said all past prime ministers and governments deserve credit for the country's growth and no one can say that past governments did not do anything.

"The growth of this country is because of all the Prime Ministers and all governments. We can never say that past government has done nothing. It is the demand of time that we make people aware of the sanctity and strength of our Constitution," Modi said.

The Prime Minister said that everyone including the poor people and workers have worked to make this country. "We have to accept their contribution," he said, adding "we must focus on dignity of India and unity of India."
