Chhattisgarh Chief Minister may come to Delhi and discuss the Naxal issue with the Central Government.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be meeting Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday to discuss the anti-Naxal strategy just a day after the rebels targeted a bus carrying civilians and Special police Officers (SPOs) in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh killing at least 40 people.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh will also meet top police and Central Reserve Police Force officials to discuss the security situation in the state following a string of major Naxal attacks in the state in the past two months.

Singh is likely to come to Delhi on Tuesday night and discuss the Naxal issue with the Central Government.

Bastar Superintendent of Police P Sunarraj said that the death toll could rise.

"Total death toll is not yet known. Injured are being moved to Jagdalpur in Maharani Hospital. Rescue efforts are on," said Sunarraj.

Meanwhile, blame game over the deadly attack has already begun with Congress General Secretary and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh blaming the Chhattisgarh government of not doing enough to tackle the Naxals.

"It is the utter failure of the Chhattisgarh government. Where is the government? Where is Chhattisgarh Police? Why can't combing operation of the landmines on an important road like Sukma-Dantewada take place? Why is Chhattisgarh Chief Minister not being held responsible?" said Digvijay Singh.

The attack on a civilian bus on Monday was carried out by the rebels using an Improvised Explosive Device with gelatin sticks planted on the metalled road. The blast created a 10-feet deep crater on the road with the bus flying about 20 feet in the air and was completely mangled.

The bus was plying on the road linking Dantewada and Sukma.
