Bidadi: Claiming that "political instability" was prevailing in Karnataka with the ruling BJP hit by a spate of corruption charges, opposition Congress on Sunday resolved to gear for a possible mid-term Assembly polls.
"Political instability is written on the wall with the BJP government facing a barrage of charges of corruption, misrule and misadministration," KPCC President G Parameshwara said in Bidadi after a meeting of senior party leaders, including Union ministers from the state.
He noted that former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, who led BJP to form its first ever government in the south in 2008, and his former ministerial colleagues were in jails and FIRs are being lodged against some of the ministers in the DV Sadananda Gowda Cabinet as well.
At the meeting, the current political situation in the state, Congress' preparedness in case of a mid-term polls and ways to strengthen the party were discussed.
"The unanimous opinion of the party leaders was that we must sort out our internal differences, prepare ourselves and work unitedly to face the challenge of a possible mid-term polls, in the wake of political instability in the state," Parameshwara said.
On the question of political alliances, he said the decision would be taken by the party high command.
Responding to a query, Parameshwara termed senior BJP leader LK Advani's "Jana Chethana Yatra" as an "utter failure that has exposed divisions within the party in the state", saying Yeddyurappa's supporters did not take part in it.
Dismissing reports that there were internal differences among members of the party, leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddramaiah said there were "no divisions and Congress was united".
However, speaking to reporters earlier in Bangalore, Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily said there were "misunderstandings which need to be sorted out".
Those who attended the meeting included External Affairs Minister SM Krishna and Minister of State for Railways KH Muniyappa.
