Dehra Dun: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today exhorted the youth of Uttarakhand to enter politics and lend their vision and voice for the benefit of the country.
Rahul Gandhi began his three-day visit to the state on Monday by interacting with SC/ST students in Khatima in Kumoan region and NSUI students in Ramnagar.
While in Khatima, he listened to the problems of SC/ ST students, in Ramnagar he interacted with girl students of the NSUI who posed him a volley of questions on the subject of politics.
'' It is your voice, vision and intelligence which can take the country forward in the field of development...'' Gandhi replied when a student asked him what benefit the youth could give to the country by entering the political stage.
'' Only the youth can ensure a postitive impact on the country through their fresh ideas and able administration....'' he said adding, ''we must listen to the voice of the youth''.
He said the Congress had initiated a number of projects for the uplift of the masses. Giving an example, he said Andhra Pradesh was faring well in ensuring the overall development of its people but Uttar Pradesh was lagging far behind. '' It is your duty to ask your state government what it is doing,'' Rahul said.
He informed that he had chosen Uttarakhand as one of his ''pilot project'' states with the other being Punjab and elections in both the states would be held by December.
'' By December, Uttarakhand and Punjab will hold elections and around 4-5 election commissioners will oversee the electoral arrangements,'' he said and added that he wanted to see more and more youngsters contest elections.
Rahul would later visit Almora district of the state and meet students of the NSUI there. VHP workers, meanwhile, waived black flags and demonstrated against his visit to Ramnagar.
