JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy wants Rajya Sabha elections cancelled in Karnataka, alleging that the Returning Officer favoured the ruling Congress and that two MLAs from the grand old party cross-voted for the BJP.
The BJP has won the prestige battle in Uttar Pradesh, bagging nine seats by defeating the SP and BSP combine and avenging the Lok Sabha bypoll loss. The saffron party was assured of winning eight seats and relied on support of independents and rebels to clinch the ninth seat. Samajwadi Party candidate Jaya Bachchan won the tenth seat. Voting was held for 25 of the 58 Rajya Sabha seats that will fall vacant this April. Thirty three candidates were elected unopposed earlier.
