New Delhi: Minutes after former Uttar Pradesh Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi quit the party and joined hands with the BJP, former Union minister Kapil Sibal described her as a "migratory bird" who left with his money.
"They are migratory birds, they come and go," was Sibal's response when CNN-News18 caught up with him shortly after Joshi announced her resignation.
“She came to me seeking funds for her election. I gave her the money. Then she joins the BJP," he alleged.
Joshi, however, denied Sibal's allegations saying the money was constituency development fund which was not utilised.
"Since he is an MP from Uttar Pradesh and I was an MLA from the state, I had asked for funds for development of my constituency. The money was not utilised. While leaving, I sent him an email saying the money is no longer required," she told CNN-News18.
Joshi, was said to be unhappy with the Congress leadership over the projection of Sheila Dikshit as its chief ministerial face in Uttar Pradesh, rued the present state of affairs in the party, alleging that it is in such a bad shape that it has contracted out its working to strategist Prashant Kishore.
Her joining BJP is expected to give a boost to the party's efforts to consolidate Brahmin voters as it looks to capture power in the state following a gap of over 15 years.
The assembly polls in UP are due early next year. Ruling Samajwadi Parry and BSP have been in the power by turn all this while.
