SC to hear plea seeking MP Governor's removal over his alleged role in Vyapam scam
The SC's order comes days after the head of the SIT probing the scam said that action will be taken against the MP Governor after he retires.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition seeking removal of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav for his alleged involvement in the vyapam scam. The petition, which has been filed by a group of lawyers from MP, will be heard on July 9.

A bench comprising Chief Justice HL Dattu and Justices Arun Kumar Mishra and Amitava Roy said that it will hear the petition about the Vyapam scam relating to the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) along with other pleas on the issue on July 9.

The petition, filed by a group of lawyers, have sought removal of Yadav and recording of his statement in the case. Earlier, the apex court had granted four months more time to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted following a High Court order, to conclude probe into the case.

The SC's order comes days after the head of the special investigation team (SIT) probing the scam said that action will be taken against the MP Governor after he retires. The SIT Chief had said that they have proof against Yadav but he enjoys immunity till he holds the MP Governor's post. The SIT has already filed an FIR against Yadav and his son over the Vyapam scam.

"High Court has already said that you can investigate when the governor retires. He cannot be arrested until he retires but investigation is not being affected in anyway. The Special Task Force intends to present challans by the end of July," Justice (Retd) Chandresh Bhushan SIT chief said.

Ram Naresh Yadav's tenure as MP Governor ends in June 2016.

The Vyapam scam in MP has become a major political controversy with numerous witnesses and accused dying under mysterious circumstances. The MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam relates to irregularities in admission in state-run medical colleges and recruitment in government jobs.
