New Delhi: Eighty-eight trains and heavy- duty IL-76 transport planes will ferry security personnel to poll-bound West Bengal and eight lakh food packets have been ordered by the Home Ministry for them.

The Ministry is going to launch a massive logistical exercise to transport around 70,000 Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to West Bengal after the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on April 13.

West Bengal will have six-phase polling from April 18-May 10.

As part of one of its biggest logistical operations, the 88 trains have been booked to several destinations of West Bengal from different locations in Tamil Nadu while each of the IL-76 planes will make three trips from Chennai and Madurai airports to Kolkata and Bagdogra.

The trains and planes will carry the CAPF personnel, arms, ammunition, vehicles and other logistics, sources said. Besides, the Ministry is also making an arrangement for distributing the eight lakh food packets among the CAPF personnel during their 36-hour train journey.

At least 10,000 more CAPF personnel would also be transported to West Bengal from Assam where the two-phase polling would be completed on April 11. Efforts are being made that all forces reach their destinations in West Bengal before polling in West Bengal begins on April 18.

Apart from the entire force of the West Bengal Police, around 40,000 CAPF personnel would be required to be deployed in each phase of polling while the remaining security men would be kept on standby.

The single phase Assembly election in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 13.
