New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party on Sunday unveiled its manifesto, promising the sky for the minorities, the unemployed and the weaker section of society.
The main features of the SP manifesto are a promise to treble the unemployment allowance from existing Rs 500 per month, free education up to post-graduate level and recruitment of minority members in police and paramilitary forces as well as in other government jobs according to their population.
SP President and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh released the manifesto in Lucknow in the presence of party General Secretary Amar Singh, senior leader Mohan Singh and party MP Jaya Prada.
Mulayam pledged that his party will implement all the promises made in the manifesto if his party is voted back to power. In fact, he says the policy will be in place "within an hour of his taking oath" after registering the victory in the Assembly polls.
The election manifesto also promises to increase the amount of Kanya Vidya Dhan, a popular scheme of the Mulayam government, from the existing Rs 20,000 per month to Rs 25,000 per month.
The UP Chief Minister said the Opposition parties were engaged only in the negative tactics to oust the SP from the power. Amar Singh said his party's emphasis would continue to be on the progress and development of minorities, backward and downtrodden classes of the society.
The SP supremo claimed that his government was the first in India to implement the recommendations of the Sacchar Committee and it would implement the remaining recommendations for the welfare of minority class.
