Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav continues to cling on to his chair despite getting a notice from the Supreme Court over the multi-crore Vyapam scam.

Hours after the Supreme Court notice, the Governor even hosted an Iftar party on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, sources within the government have told CNN-IBN that the Centre is hoping Yadav to resign on his own. However, if he doesn't, the government is likely to take a decision after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from Russia on Monday.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court sent a notice to Yadav, the Centre as well as the Madhya Pradesh government on a plea seeking his removal over the Vyapam scam.

The Supreme Court also transferred the scam and mysterious death cases related to Vyapam to the Central Bureau of Investigation for further investigation.

There has been demand for the removal of the Governor over his alleged links to the scam but the Madhya Pradesh High Court had quashed an FIR against him on grounds of constitutional immunity.
