Kanpur: A police complaint has been filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers for allegedly thrashing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members when they went to meet BJP chief Amit Shah.

The complaint was filed by AAP leader Arvind Katiyar in Swarup Nagar police station on Sunday.

According to Katiyar, a team of AAP workers went to meet Shah on July 11 when he held a review meeting on the party's mass contact programme under 'Mission 2017' for Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

AAP workers wanted to meet Shah to submit a memorandum demanding setting up of an SIT to probe into the Vyapam scam, Katiyar said.

He alleged that when the AAP team reached the meeting venue, the BJP workers present there thrashed them and chased them away.

They snatched cash, gold rings and chains from AAP workers, Katiyar said in a statement.

Two AAP workers were injured in the melee. Meanwhile, Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) District President Ajay Singh has also alleged that he was beaten up by the BJP workers when he went to meet Shah regarding the problems faced by the people here. However, police said no FIR has been lodged so far.

"We have received the complaints but the FIR will be registered against the BJP workers only after doing medical tests on the complainants after which a probe will be initiated against the culprits," Inspector Kamal Yadav said.
