New Delhi: Varun Gandhi booked under the National Security (NSA)
by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Uttar Pradesh Government on Sunday booked Varun Gandhi under NSA for inciting communal tension during electioneering recently.
His mother Maneka Gandhi sees a political conspiracy in the episode. She told reporters that the mayhem after police baton charged Varun’s supporters would not have taken place if not for a certain officer in the UP police force.
"Just one police inspector who we have been watching for many days now, has struck 25 of the injured himself. His name is Pervez Miyan," said Maneka Gandhi.
The Congress meanwhile, has been branding Varun a victim of the BJP and the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh to "polarise" votes on communal lines.
On being told that the BJP leader L K Advani has said that the Election Commission has never acted in this manner in the last 60 years of Independence, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal quipped, "Of course, there was never the kind of remarks that ever came up, the way Varun Gandhi has uttered. Give me one example, when similar remarks were made. Varun is ten steps ahead of Narendra Modi."
