As Salaar continues its triumphant run at the box office, fans eagerly anticipate its debut on the OTT platform Netflix. While reports confirm the film’s digital rights have been acquired by Netflix for a staggering Rs 162 crore in all five languages, the official release date on the streaming service remains a subject of speculation. The latest buzz suggests that Salaar might hit Netflix in January, coinciding with the festive occasion of Sankranthi on January 12. However, no official confirmation has been provided by the filmmakers or Netflix.
The digital deal with Netflix marks a record-breaking figure, making it the highest-ever OTT deal for a South Indian film. The anticipation for the OTT release has intensified following the film’s theatrical success since its release on December 22.
Directed by Prashanth Neel, acclaimed for his work on KGF, Salaar: Ceasefire – Part 1 boasts a stellar cast including Prabhas, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Shruti Haasan, Jagapathi Babu, Bobby Simha, Tinnu Anand, Easwari Rao, Sriya Reddy, among others. Produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner, the film has garnered attention not only for its star-studded ensemble but also for its high-octane action sequences and compelling narrative.
While rumours circulate about the potential January release on Netflix, fans are also anticipating the television premiere of Salaar on the Star Maa channel. The film’s phenomenal success at the box office is evident, with an impressive collection of Rs 90 crore on its domestic premier day and a global total of Rs 178 crore.
Crafted with a budget of reportedly Rs 270 crore, Salaar has proven to be a box-office powerhouse, amassing a reported Rs 391 crore to date at the domestic box office. Currently ranking as the 8th highest-grossing Indian film of the year, the epic action film explores the complex dynamic between two friends turned foes. Ravi Basrur is credited for the film’s music, while Bhuvan Gowda and Ujwal Kulkarni handle cinematography and editing, respectively. The film’s success reinforces Prashanth Neel’s stature in the industry and adds another feather to Prabhas’ cap as a bankable star.
