Bharti Airtel has introduced a hybrid DTH set-top box (STB) which claims to convert any TV into a smart TV allowing end-users to watch YouTube, Netflix videos along with regular satellite TV channels. Called Airtel Internet TV, the hybrid DTH set-top box connects overs Wi-Fi to provide the smartphone entertainment experience on your larger old TV screen. Here is everything you need to know. First things first. High-speed internet is a must
The hybrid DTH STB makes no sense without a reliable, high-speed Wi-Fi internet connection. Before getting the Airtel Internet TV, make sure you have a good Wi-Fi plan, preferably with unlimited data offering.
It requires a broadband or a 4G hotspot connection with a minimum recommended speed of 4 Mbps for a smooth online experience. Also read: Reliance Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan Offer: All You Need to KnowUnderstanding the hybrid part
The Airtel Internet TV is just like any other STB with the added smart Android TV feature. For those unaware, it is more like an Android PC-on-a-stick device that is combined with the standard STB. A regular Airtel Digital TV dish antenna will also be a part of the installation. Existing Airtel Digital TV customers can also upgrade their existing STBs to ‘Internet TV’ STB. What can it do?
It comes preloaded with Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Games, Airtel Movies among others. It also provides full access to Google Play Store to download apps and games and access them on the old TV. It also offers over 500 satellite TV channels. Airtel Internet TV STB is Chromecast compatible and users can mirror content from their Android smartphone to their existing TVs.
Also, it comes with a Bluetooth-based remote which recognises voice(via Google voice search). You can do a voice-based search like you do with Google Assistant.
The Airtel Internet TV STB is 4K content ready and enables LIVE TV shows to be paused, recorded or even rewind. It also supports content via USB (external HD) and Bluetooth. Gamers can use physical game controllers, or even their smartphones as a game pad with Internet TV.Also read: IIM Bangalore Study Finds Loopholes in Indian Digital Payment Services What is the cost?
