New MacBook Pro Launch: 5 Cruel Things Apple Just Did
Apple enthusiasts are calling the new MacBook Pro revolutionary. However, there are some annoying things the new MacBook Pro will present.

The new Apple MacBook Pro lineup has been launched. There are five models- three options for the 13-inch MacBook Pro and two for the 15-inch variant. The cheapest MacBook Pro (13-inch) costs Rs 1,29,900 and doesn't come with the Touch Bar integrated Touch ID. To get the new Touch Bar, you will have to shed a minimum of Rs 1,55,900.

Apple enthusiasts are calling the new MacBook Pro revolutionary. However, there are some annoying things the new MacBook Pro will present.

Touch Bar absent on the cheapest MacBook Pro

If the new MacBook Pro is mostly about the Touch Bar with integrated Touch ID, shouldn’t the entry level variant at Rs 1,29,900 also have it? So, what are the other differences between the 13-inch MacBook Pro with and without the Touch Bar?

The cheaper one is powered by a 2.0GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz and Intel Iris Graphics 540 while the model costing Rs 1,55,900 is powered by a 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz and Intel Iris Graphics 540.

The difference in performance can hardly be noticed but be sure to decide whether you really need the Touch Bar or not.

Also, the top-end 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar costs Rs 1,72,900. What extra do you get? A 512GB SSD for storage.

3.5 mm audio jacks- To Keep or ditch?

It seems Apple cannot decide whether to ditch the 3.5 mm audio jack or not. While the latest iPhone 7 and 7 Plus doesn’t come with a 3.5 mm audio jack, the new MacBook Pro does. So, if you need to use the earphones bundled with the iPhone 7, forget it as there is no Lightning port on the new Macs.

Retaining the good old 3.5 mm headphones is a good idea, as you can use it with both the MacBook Pro and the iPhone 7 via the Lighting-to-3.5mm adapter. Or, simply go wireless.

No standard USB ports

The new MacBook Pro has no standard USB ports. You only get Thunderbolt 3 ports or Type-C. At a time when Windows laptops at max adds only one USB Type-C port, Apple has only included Type-C ports- 2 on the cheapest variant and four of them on the rest. And that’s it, nothing else.

So, to connect to an external storage, you will have to buy adapters. Also, for VGA and HDMI output you will have to buy separate adapters.

The same charging cable that breaks easily

The revolutionary MacBook Pro comes with the same charging cable which breaks easily. Apple recently announced that majority of cables and adapters sold on Amazon and Groupon is fake. So, the least Apple could have done is provide better quality cables.

Spend more on adapters

The new MacBook Pro does an excellent job to promote the accessory ecosystem. Spending at least Rs 1.56 lakhs is not good enough, you will have to spend more on adapters to get your daily work going on it.

What's your reaction?
