No New Samsung Galaxy Note Phones in 2021, but Samsung Confirms the Premium Series Will Live On
Previously, a report had suggested that Samsung is planning to discontinue the series due to a drop in demand for high-end smartphones.

Samsung has finally addressed speculations over the future of the premium Samsung Galaxy Note series. According to SamMobile, DJ Koh, co-CEO of Samsung’s IT and Mobile Communications division recently told shareholders that the company would not launch new Galaxy Note devices this year. The report adds that the South Korean tech giant has not axed the Galaxy Note lineup, and new models may launch in 2022. Earlier in February, another report had claimed that the company is working on the ‘fan edition’ of Galaxy Note 20.

During Samsung’s 52nd annual shareholder meeting, Koh (via SamMobile) clarified that it would be difficult for the company to launch the Galaxy Note series in 2021 due to a severe shortage of semiconductors and the clash with existing products. The Samsung executive also notes that the timeline of the launch might differ from previous launches. The company typically unveils new S-series at the beginning of the year, while the Galaxy Note series comes out in the third quarter.

Previously, a report had suggested that Samsung is planning to discontinue the series due to a drop in demand for high-end smartphones amid the COVID-19 pandemic and to focus on the next-gen Galaxy Fold smartphones. The speculations over its departure became stronger after Samsung introduced SPen support on Galaxy S21 Ultra – a feature traditionally reserved for Galaxy Note phones and Samsung tablets.

Samsung Mobile Chief TM Roh had also hinted that the company will add Galaxy Note experience to other smartphones and devices. Samsung is also expected to shift focus on its mid-budget offerings to compete against Chinese counterparts such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, and more. Samsung is hosting its second Unpacked event today (March 17) where it is expected to unveil the mid-budget Galaxy A52 and Galaxy A72. First launched in 2011, the Samsung Note phones are popular for their large screen, camera sensors and support for stylus (Samsung S-Pen).
