Every year, there is an industry trend that smartphones follow, and this year it is the inclusion of generative AI features. The AI trend was kickstarted by Samsung, with its Galaxy S24 series, and now, more flagships from rival companies are set to get these features soon. One of those phones is the OnePlus 12.
While the OnePlus 12 may not have launched with any major AI features despite having top-end hardware in the form of the Snapdragons 8 Gen 3, the company is rolling out an update to bring generative AI features to its ColorOS in China.
As spotted by Mishaal Rahman, both the OnePlus 11 and the OnePlus 12, have received a new update that brings new AI features to potentially compete with rivals like Samsung. There are multiple new AI features, including an AI summariser, which, as the name suggests, helps you generate call summaries and other key information from your phone calls.
Another feature mentioned in the changelog is a tool that lets you erase objects from your pictures, similar to what you get with Google Pixel’s Magic Eraser.
There is also an upgrade to Breeno Touch, allowing your phone to recognize on-screen content and provide contextual suggestions.
Would these features launch for global variants with Oxygen OS?
It isn’t clear if OnePlus will limit these features to its models in China or bring them to global markets as well, where it ships its devices with Oxygen OS instead of ColorOS, such as the US and India. However, this is a step in the right direction considering how Samsung, being one of the biggest competitors, already has most of these features. These features would certainly help it better compete in China, and globally when/if these features roll out.
