New Delhi: Twitter is reportedly said to be mulling the purchase of live-streaming app, Periscope, in a deal which is said to be around $100 million dollars.

Periscope allows users to upload live video wherever they are and broadcast it to allow people to watch it. A Techcrunch report stated that the acquisition would prove beneficial for Twitter as it is in line with its real-time sharing option.

The reason why including Periscope in Twitter makes sense is because of the availability of high-bandwidth, prevelance of mobile cellular networks, and also the emergence of powerful mobile devices with great cameras.

Periscope is similar to the recently launched phenomenon called 'Meerkat,' which allows users to stream video from their smartphones to their followers in real time.

With Twitter's history of facilitating transparency in events like the Arab Spring, the Ferguson protests in the wake of the killing of Michael Brown and many others with live video streaming, having an in-house service would be a boon to activists, reporters and documentarians.
