Retellings of the epic saga Ramayana of television have been very popular over decades. Several producers and channels have attempted to cast new faces and give a unique touch to the epic. In the latest, another channel has come up with Shrimad Ramayan, which presents the values and teachings of Lord Rama to the audience in their purest form. It’s barely been a month since the mythical saga premiered, but the show has already picked up a good rating.
Among other characters in the Ramayana, Queen Kaikeyi played a pivotal role in the story. While many summarise her character as negative, there are multiple facets to her nature. Shilpa Saklani who is currently essaying the bold character told ETimes, “Queen Kaikeyi is a formidable character; her internal struggle between love and ambition needs an actor to add so much depth to the onscreen portrayal. She is a queen, who loves her husband, but she can’t fight the insecurities that Mantara keeps fueling and she makes the choice that eventually tears her family apart. Kaikeyi epitomises the complex emotions of human nature and showcases how insecurities can be manipulated for others’ motives, making for one of the biggest teachings of the Ramayana. Warrior, diplomat, and the most favoured queen; there’s so much more to Kaikeyi than just being a negative character.”
As per the epic, Kaikeyi will be seen playing a pivotal role in Lord Rama’s 14 year exile. Meanwhile, the current track of Shrimad Ramayan is focussed on Lord Ram and Goddess Sita’s marriage. According to the latest promo for Shrimad Ramayan posted by the channel on its official social media handle, King Janak touches Lord Ram’s feet in accordance with the rituals. However, Lord Ram forbids him and says it’s not right that a father should touch his son’s feet. When King Janak tries to explain to him that this is customary, Lord Ram on the other hand explains to him the logic behind the ritual. He explains that the groom’s feet are washed so that he may set out into a new relationship with holy and pure feet but that does not require anyone to touch son’s feet.
